เมื่อวันที่ 13 สิงหาคม 2568 นางชีร์เลย์ เดนนิเซ อากิลาร์ บาร์เรรา เอกอัครราชทูตกัวเตมาลาประจำประเทศไทย ได้เข้าเยี่ยมคารวะนางหัทยา คูสกุล อธิบดีกรมอเมริกาและแปซิฟิกใต้ เนื่องในโอกาสที่อธิบดีฯ เข้ารับหน้าที่

ทั้งสองฝ่ายยินดีกับพัฒนาการเชิงบวกของความสัมพันธ์ไทย-กัวเตมาลา และหารือแนวทางการเสริมสร้าง ความร่วมมือในสาขาต่าง ๆ ที่เป็นผลประโยชน์ร่วมกัน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง การค้าและการลงทุน ความสัมพันธ์ระดับประชาชน และความร่วมมือพหุภาคี ทั้งสองฝ่ายยังแสดงความมุ่งมั่นที่จะทำงานร่วมกันอย่างใกล้ชิดเพื่อขับเคลื่อนกลไกความร่วมมือ อาทิ การจัดตั้งกลไกการปรึกษาหารือทางการเมือง การแต่งตั้งกงสุลกิตติมศักดิ์ไทยประจำกรุงกัวเตมาลาซิตีคนใหม่ การเปิดสถานกงสุลกิตติมศักดิ์กัวเตมาลาประจำจังหวัดภูเก็ต

นอกจากนี้ อธิบดีฯ ได้แจ้งความคืบหน้าเกี่ยวกับสถานการณ์ชายแดนไทย-กัมพูชา ให้เอกอัครราชทูตฯ ทราบ รวมถึงการดำเนินการของไทยต่อกรณีทหารไทยเหยียบทุ่นระเบิดสังหารบุคคล ภายใต้อนุสัญญาห้ามทุ่นระเบิดสังหารบุคคล (Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention) หรือ อนุสัญญาออตตาวา (Ottawa Convention) ภายหลังข้อตกลงหยุดยิง พร้อมทั้งย้ำจุดยืนของไทยในการแก้ไขปัญหาโดยสันติวิธีผ่านการเจรจาผ่านกลไกทวิภาคีกับกัมพูชา ในโอกาสนี้ เอกอัครราชทูตฯ แสดงความหวังว่าสถานการณ์จะได้รับการแก้ไขโดยสันติวิธี

Ambassador of Guatemala to Thailand paid a courtesy call on Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs

On 13 August 2025, H.E. Ms. Shirley Dennise Aguilar Barrera, Ambassador of Guatemala to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, upon the latter’s assumption of duty.

Both sides welcomed the positive developments of Thai-Guatemala relations and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, especially trade and investment, people-to-people contacts, and multilateral cooperation. They also expressed determination to work closely together to move forward the bilateral ties with the establishment of the Political Consultations mechanism, the appointment of new Honorary Consul of Thailand in Guatemala City, the opening of Honorary Consulate of Guatemala in Phuket.

In addition, the Director-General provided the Ambassador with the update on the Thailand-Cambodia border situation, including Thailand’s responses under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention) to the Landmine Incidents involving Thai Military Personnel following the ceasefire agreement, while stressing Thailand’s position to resolve the situation peacefully through bilateral mechanisms. The Ambassador expressed hope that the situation would be resolved through peaceful mean.
