เมื่อวันที่ ๖ สิงหาคม ๒๕๖๗ น.ส. บุษฎี สันติพิทักษ์ รองปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ เป็นประธานร่วมการประชุมกลไกหารือทางการเมืองระหว่างกระทรวงการต่างประเทศไทยและกระทรวงการต่างประเทศชิลี (Thailand-Chile Political Consultations) ครั้งที่ ๗ ซึ่งฝ่ายชิลีเป็นเจ้าภาพ ณ กระทรวงการต่างประเทศชิลี โดยมีนายโรดริโก โอลเซน โอลิบาเรส ปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศชิลี เป็นประธานร่วมการประชุมฝ่ายชิลี

ในโอกาสนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้แลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับพัฒนาการทางการเมือง เศรษฐกิจ และสังคมของทั้งสองประเทศ อีกทั้งยังเห็นพ้องที่จะผลักดันการประชุมทวิภาคีและการแลกเปลี่ยนการเยือนระดับสูงระหว่างกันอย่างสม่ำเสมอ นอกจากนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายยังได้หารือแนวทางในการต่อยอดความร่วมมือในสาขาที่มีอยู่ให้เข้มแข็งยิ่งขึ้น ทั้งในระดับทวิภาคีและระดับพหุภาคี โดยเฉพาะด้านเศรษฐกิจ การค้าและการลงทุน ความร่วมมือเพื่อการพัฒนา ดาราศาสตร์ การส่งเสริมวิสาหกิจเริ่มต้น รวมทั้งการขยายความร่วมมือไปยังสาขาอื่นที่มีศักยภาพ อาทิ ความร่วมมือด้านการท่องเที่ยวและกีฬา ความร่วมมือด้านการศึกษา เป็นต้น

ในการประชุมครั้งนี้ ไทยและชิลีได้ร่วมกันแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองในประเด็นระหว่างประเทศที่สำคัญของโลกและภูมิภาค รวมทั้งแสดงความพร้อมที่จะส่งเสริมความร่วมมือระหว่างกันในเวทีพหุภาคี โดยเฉพาะสหประชาชาติ (UN) เอเปค (APEC) ตลอดจนองค์การเพื่อความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจและการพัฒนา (OECD) และความตกลงหุ้นส่วนทางเศรษฐกิจระดับภูมิภาค (RCEP) ซึ่งต่างฝ่ายต่างอยู่ระหว่างการสมัครเป็นสมาชิก นอกจากนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้หารือเกี่ยวกับความร่วมมือระหว่างอาเซียนกับกลุ่มพันธมิตรแปซิฟิก (PA)

อนึ่ง ฝ่ายไทยได้ใช้โอกาสนี้ แสดงความพร้อมในการเป็นเจ้าภาพการประชุมฯ ครั้งที่ ๘ ในห้วงเวลาที่ทั้งสองฝ่ายสะดวกร่วมกัน

On 6 August 2024, H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, co-chaired the 7th Meeting of Thailand-Chile Political Consultations with H.E. Mr. Rodrigo Olsen Olivares, Secretary-General for Foreign Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile, in Santiago, Chile.

At the meeting, the co-chairs shared domestic developments in their respective countries, be it political, economic, or social. Both sides agreed to further promote bilateral meetings as well as exchanges of high-level visits. They also discussed ways to enhance existing cooperation, particularly, on economic front, trade and investment promotion, technical cooperation, cooperation in the fields of astronomy and start-ups, to name a few. Other potential areas of cooperation between Thailand and Chile, for instance, education as well as sports and tourism were also addressed.

Moreover, both sides exchanged views on the global agenda as well as their respective regional developments. During the discussion, Thailand and Chile reaffirmed their commitments to strengthening their collaboration in international fora, especially in the frameworks of the UN, APEC as well as each country’s application as member to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), respectively. ASEAN-Pacific Alliance (PA) relations and cooperation were also discussed.

The 8th Meeting of Thailand-Chile Political Consultations will be hosted by Thailand, at a mutually convenient date for both countries.
