เมื่อวันที่ 23 กันยายน 2569 นายศรัณย์ เจริญสุวรรณ ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้หารือระหว่างอาหารกลางวันกับนายแมตต์ ทิสเติลทเวท ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีว่าการต่างประเทศและการค้า และผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีว่าการตรวจคนเข้าเมืองออสเตรเลีย ในระหว่างการเยือนประเทศไทย โดยมีนายชุตินทร คงศักดิ์ ผู้แทนการค้าไทย และนายอาร์ชวัส เจริญศิลป์ ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงการคลัง เข้าร่วมด้วย

ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้หารือแลกเปลี่ยนเกี่ยวกับบทบาทของมหาอำนาจในภูมิภาคประเด็นเมียนมา สถานการณ์ชายแดนไทย-กัมพูชา สภาวะเศรษฐกิจไทย การส่งเสริมการลงทุนของภาคเอกชนออสเตรเลียในประเทศไทย การประชุมประจำปีสภาผู้ว่าการกองทุนการเงินระหว่างประเทศและกลุ่มธนาคารโลกประจำปี 2569 ซึ่งประเทศไทยเป็นเจ้าภาพระหว่างวันที่ 12 - 18 ตุลาคม 2569 ที่ประเทศไทย โดยฝ่ายออสเตรเลียได้มอบหมายผู้แทนระดับสูงเข้าร่วม รวมถึงการเข้าเป็นสมาชิกองค์การเพื่อความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจและการพัฒนา (OECD) ของไทย ซึ่งฝ่ายออสเตรเลียสนับสนุนไทยด้วยดีเสมอมา

ในโอกาสนี้ ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงการต่างประเทศได้หยิบยกประเด็นเกี่ยวกับแนวทางการส่งเสริมบทบาทของประเทศอำนาจขนาดกลาง รวมถึงประเทศไทยและออสเตรเลีย ในเวทีระหว่างประเทศ ซึ่งฝ่ายออสเตรเลียเห็นพ้องถึงความสำคัญในการหารือระหว่างกันเพื่อกำหนดแนวทางดังกล่าวต่อไป

On 23 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, joined a luncheon discussion with The Honorable Matt Thistlethwaite MP, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Assistant Minister for Immigration for Australia, during the latter's visit to Thailand. The luncheon was also attended by H.E. Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Thai Trade Representative, and H.E. Mr. Archawat Chareonsilp, Vice Minister for Finance.

Both sides discussed and exchanged views on the role of major powers in the region, the situation in Myanmar, developments along the Thai-Cambodian border, and Thailand's economic outlook. They also discussed ways to further promote Australian private-sector investment in Thailand, as well as the upcoming 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), hosted by Thailand from 12 to 18 October 2026, and welcomed Australia's high-level participation. Moreover, Thailand's accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was also discussed, with the Australian side reaffirming its longstanding support for Thailand's membership aspirations.

On this occasion, the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs underlined the importance of enhancing the role of middle powers, including Thailand and Australia, in the international fora. The Australian side concurred and emphasised the value of continued discussion on the matter.
