รองนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ หารือทางโทรศัพท์กับประธานาธิบดีชิลี โดยยินดีต่อการครบรอบ ๖๐ ปี ความสัมพันธ์ไทย – ชิลีในปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๖๕ ชูโมเดลเศรษฐกิจชีวภาพ เศรษฐกิจหมุนเวียน เศรษฐกิจสีเขียว เป็นแนวคิดหลักทั้งในการเป็นเจ้าภาพเอเปค ของไทยและการประชุมรัฐภาคีกรอบอนุสัญญาสหประชาชาติว่าด้วยการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ พร้อมปูทางสู่ความร่วมมือด้านพลังงานทดแทน
เมื่อวันที่ ๒๙ ตุลาคม ๒๕๖๔ นายดอน ปรมัตถ์วินัย รองนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้รับมอบหมายจากนายกรัฐมนตรีเป็นผู้แทนหารือทางโทรศัพท์กับนายเซบัสเตียน ปิญเญรา เอเชนิเก ประธานาธิบดีชิลี โดยทั้งสองฝ่ายร่วมหารือกระชับความสัมพันธ์ไทย - ชิลี ที่ก้าวหน้าและจะครบรอบ ๖๐ ปี การสถาปนาความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตในปี ๒๕๖๕
รองนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศได้เน้นย้ำการใช้โมเดลเศรษฐกิจชีวภาพ เศรษฐกิจหมุนเวียน เศรษฐกิจสีเขียว (Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model- BCG ) เป็นแนวทางในการสนับสนุนการฟื้นฟูภูมิภาคจากโควิด-๑๙ ซึ่งจะเป็นแนวคิดหลักของวาระการเป็นเจ้าภาพการประชุมเอเปคของไทยในปี ๒๕๖๕ และการเข้าร่วมของไทยในการประชุมรัฐภาคีกรอบอนุสัญญาสหประชาชาติว่าด้วยการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ สมัยที่ ๒๖ (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties: UNFCCC COP) หรือ COP26 นอกจากนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายต่างเห็นพ้องที่จะส่งเสริมความร่วมมือด้านพลังงานทดแทนซึ่งเป็นสาขาที่ชิลีมีความเชี่ยวชาญ เพื่อสนับสนุนการดำเนินการเพื่อรับมือกับการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ
ในปี ๒๕๖๓ ชิลีเป็นประเทศคู่ค้าอันดับที่ ๔ ของประเทศไทยในภูมิภาคลาตินอเมริกา โดยมีมูลค่าการค้ารวมทั้งสิ้น ๗๗๒.๒๙ ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ ทั้งสองประเทศมีความตกลงการค้าเสรี ไทย - ชิลี เป็นกลไกทางการค้าที่สำคัญ โดยภาษีสินค้าทุกรายการภายใต้ความตกลงการค้าเสรีดังกล่าวจะลดเหลือร้อยละ ๐ ในปี ๒๕๖๖
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs had a phone conversation with the President of Chile where he expressed his appreciation on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2022, highlighted BCG Model as a key concept in both Thailand’s APEC chairmanship and COP26, and expressed the readiness to promote cooperation in renewable energy.
On 29 October 2021, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on behalf of the Prime Minister of Thailand, had a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Sebastián Piñera Echenique, President of Chile, discussing bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the lead up to the year 2022, which will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand highlighted the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model as an approach to support the regional COVID-19 recovery efforts and the theme for both Thailand’s APEC host year in 2022 and Thailand’s participation in the 2021 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (UNFCCC COP) or COP26. Both sides also shared a common view to promote cooperation on renewable energy, a field in which Chile is specialised, to support climate action.
In 2020, Chile is Thailand’s 4th largest trading partner in Latin America with a bilateral trade volume valued at 772.29 million USD. The Thailand – Chile Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is a key trade mechanism between the two countries under which the tariff rates for all products are to be lowered to 0 percent by 2023.
