เมื่อวันที่ ๕ มีนาคม ๒๕๖๗ นางสาวใจไทย อุปการนิติเกษตร รองอธิบดีกรมอเมริกาและแปซิฟิกใต้ เข้าร่วมการประชุมเจ้าหน้าที่อาวุโสของเวทีความร่วมมือระหว่างเอเชียตะวันออกกับลาตินอเมริกา (Forum for East Asia – Latin America Cooperation: FEALAC) ครั้งที่ ๒๒ ผ่านระบบทางไกล โดยมีสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาว เป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการประชุม ในฐานะประเทศผู้ประสานงานฝ่ายเอเชียตะวันออก และสาธารณรัฐโดมินิกันเป็นประธานร่วมของการประชุมในฐานะประเทศผู้ประสานงานฝ่ายลาตินอเมริกา

ที่ประชุมได้รับรองร่างเอกสาร Concept Note on Rotating Mechanism of FEALAC Regional Coordinators และ Term of Reference สำหรับการสรรหาประเทศผู้ประสานงานภูมิภาค (Regional Coordinator) ของแต่ละภูมิภาค และได้หารือเกี่ยวกับแผนการจัดกิจกรรมสำหรับปี ๒๕๖๗ รวมถึงการจัดกิจกรรมในโอกาสครบรอบ ๒๕ ปีการก่อตั้ง FEALAC เพื่อเสริมสร้างพลวัตและความต่อเนื่องของกรอบ FEALAC และกลไกการประชุมที่เกี่ยวข้อง

FEALAC เป็นกรอบความร่วมมือพหุภาคีระหว่างภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกกับลาตินอเมริกา ประกอบด้วยสมาชิก ๓๖ ประเทศจากทั้งสองภูมิภาค ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี ๒๕๔๒ เพื่อเป็นกลไกสำหรับการหารือด้านการเมืองและเศรษฐกิจและส่งเสริมความร่วมมือในทุกมิติ เพื่อนำไปสู่ความสัมพันธ์ที่เข้มแข็งและความร่วมมือที่ใกล้ชิดระหว่างทั้งสองภูมิภาค

On 5 March 2024, Ms. Jaithai Upakarnitikaset, Deputy Director-General of the Deparment of American and South Pacific Affairs, attended the 22nd Senior Officials’ Meeting of the Forum for East Asia – Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC SOM) via video conference, hosted by Lao PDR, regional coordinator of East Asia, and co-chaired by the Dominican Republic, regional coordinator of Latin America.

The Meeting adopted the Draft Concept Note on Rotating Mechanism of FEALAC Regional Coordinators and the Draft Term of Reference (TOR) for the voluntary alphabetical rotation system for the selection of the FEALAC Regional Coordinators, and discussed on plans for FEALAC activities in 2024, including celebration activities for the 25th anniversary of FEALAC this year, to strengthen the dynamism and continuity of FEALAC and its related mechanisms.

FEALAC, established in 1999, is a regional forum between East Asia and Latin America, consisting of 36 member countries from both regions. The Forum serves as a platform for political and economic dialogue as well as cooperation in all areas in order to achieve stronger partnership and closer cooperation between the two regions.
