เมื่อวันที่ 3 กรกฎาคม 2569 นางศิริลักษณ์ นิยม รองปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ เป็นประธานร่วมกับนางโมนิกา โบลัญโญส เปเรซ ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศสาธารณรัฐกัวเตมาลา ในการประชุมการปรึกษาหารือทางการเมืองระหว่างประเทศไทยกับสาธารณรัฐกัวเตมาลา ครั้งที่ 1 ซึ่งฝ่ายไทยเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดขึ้นที่กรุงเทพฯ

ทั้งสองฝ่ายยินดีต่อมิตรภาพอันยาวนานระหว่างไทยกับกัวเตมาลา พร้อมหารือแนวทางการจัดกิจกรรมเฉลิมฉลองครบรอบ 70 ปี ความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตระหว่างกัน ในปี 2570 นอกจากนี้ ยังได้หารือแนวทางเสริมสร้างความร่วมมือในหลากหลายสาขา อาทิ การค้าและการลงทุน การศึกษา วิชาการ การท่องเที่ยว และการแลกเปลี่ยนทางวัฒนธรรม ตลอดจนแลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับพัฒนาการสำคัญในภูมิภาค และแนวทางส่งเสริมความร่วมมือในกรอบพหุภาคีโดยเฉพาะภายใต้กรอบสหประชาชาติ เพื่อเสริมสร้างความเข้มแข็งของระบบพหุภาคีในการรับมือกับความท้าทายต่าง ๆ ในปัจจุบัน

ในห้วงการประชุมฯ ดังกล่าว นายศรัณย์ เจริญสุวรรณ ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้ร่วมกับนางโมนิกา โบลัญโญส เปเรซ ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศสาธารณรัฐกัวเตมาลา ลงนามความตกลงว่าด้วยการยกเว้นการตรวจลงตราสำหรับผู้ถือหนังสือเดินทางทูตและหนังสือเดินทางราชการระหว่างไทยและกัวเตมาลา ซึ่งจะช่วยส่งเสริมความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างไทยกับกัวเตมาลาให้แน่นแฟ้นยิ่งขึ้น รวมทั้งสนับสนุนการขยายความเชื่อมโยงระหว่างไทยกับภูมิภาคอเมริกากลางและแคริบเบียนผ่านกัวเตมาลาในฐานะหุ้นส่วนสำคัญของไทยในภูมิภาคต่อไป ภายหลังพิธีลงนาม ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีฯ ได้เป็นเจ้าภาพเลี้ยงอาหารกลางวันเพื่อเป็นเกียรติแก่ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศสาธารณรัฐกัวเตมาลาและคณะ เพื่อกระชับความสัมพันธ์อันดีและแลกเปลี่ยนข้อคิดเห็นเกี่ยวกับการส่งเสริมความร่วมมือระหว่างไทยกับกัวเตมาลาในด้านต่าง ๆ ต่อไป

On 3 July 2026, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the 1st Meeting of the Thailand and Guatemala Political Consultations with H.E. Mrs. Mónica Bolaños Pérez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala. The meeting, hosted by Thailand in Bangkok, marked an important milestone in advancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Both sides welcomed the longstanding friendship between Thailand and Guatemala and discussed plans to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Thai - Guatemalan diplomatic relations in 2027. They also explored ways to further strengthen cooperation in a wide range of areas, including trade and investment, education and academic cooperation, tourism, and cultural exchanges. In addition, the two sides exchanged views on key regional developments and ways to enhance multilateral cooperation, particularly within the framework of the United Nations, with a view to reinforcing the multilateral system in addressing current global challenges.

On the sidelines of the Consultations, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Mrs. Mónica Bolaños Pérez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala, signed the Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of the Republic of Guatemala on the Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports. The signing marked an important milestone in further strengthening Thailand - Guatemala relations and enhancing Thailand’s connectivity with Central America and the Caribbean. Following the signing ceremony, the Vice Minister hosted a luncheon in honour of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala and the Guatemalan delegation. The luncheon provided an opportunity for both sides to further strengthen their cordial relations and exchange views on advancing Thailand - Guatemala cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
