เมื่อวันที่ 11 สิงหาคม 2569 นายสีหศักดิ์ พวงเกตุแก้ว รองนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ พบหารือกับนางเรย์ลีน ซีอาลี ทากาลอ ลูฟาลานี เอกอัครราชทูตนิวซีแลนด์ประจำประเทศไทย ในโอกาสที่เอกอัครราชทูตฯ เข้ารับหน้าที่ ทั้งสองฝ่ายหารือถึงการยกระดับความสัมพันธ์สู่การเป็นหุ้นส่วนยุทธศาสตร์ และการแลกเปลี่ยนการเยือนระดับสูงในโอกาสครบรอบ 70 ปีความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตในปี 2569 นอกจากนี้ ยังได้ยืนยันความมุ่งมั่นในการดำเนินการเชิงรุกภายใต้กรอบความร่วมมือที่มีระหว่างกัน โดยเฉพาะแผนปฏิบัติการร่วมฯ ไทย – นิวซีแลนด์ ค.ศ. 2026 - 2030 ให้เกิดผลที่เป็นรูปธรรม การผลักดันการเพิ่มมูลค่าการค้าระหว่างกันเป็น 3 เท่าภายในปี 2588 การส่งเสริมการลงทุนระหว่างกัน และความร่วมมือระดับประชาชน รวมถึงกลับมาเปิดให้บริการเที่ยวบินตรงและความร่วมมือระหว่างท่าอากาศยาน

ทั้งสองฝ่ายเห็นพ้องที่จะส่งเสริมความร่วมมือในภูมิภาค โดยเฉพาะอนุภูมิภาคลุ่มน้ำโขง ซึ่งนิวซีแลนด์มีบทบาทสำคัญในการสนับสนุนความร่วมมือเพื่อการพัฒนาและการเสริมสร้างศักยภาพของบุคลากรในอนุภูมิภาคผ่านสถาบันแม่โขง (Mekong Institute) และคณะกรรมาธิการแม่น้ำโขง (Mekong River Commission) โดยเฉพาะในด้านการต่อต้านอาชญากรรมข้ามชาติ ทั้งสองฝ่ายพร้อมร่วมมือเพื่อรับมือกับความท้าทายระดับโลก อาทิ ความมั่นคงทางอาหาร พลังงาน และไซเบอร์

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with Ambassador of New Zealand to Thailand on the occasion of her assumption of duty

On 11 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with H.E. Ms. Raylene Siale Tagaloa Liufalani, Ambassador of New Zealand to Thailand, on the occasion of her assumption of duty. Both sides discussed elevating Thailand – New Zealand relations to a Strategic Partnership and promoting high-level exchanges to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and New Zealand in 2026. They also reaffirmed their commitment to taking proactive actions under existing cooperation frameworks, particularly delivering concrete outcomes through the Joint Plan of Action 2026 - 2030.

On the economic front, both sides are committed to triple trade value by 2045, expand reciprocal investment, and strengthen people-to-people connections, including resumption of direct flights and enhancing cooperation between the two countries’ airports.

They also agreed to advance regional cooperation, particularly in the Mekong subregion where New Zealand plays a vital role in supporting sustainable development cooperation and human resource development through the Mekong Institute and the Mekong River Commission, with a particular focus on combating transnational crime. Furthermore, both sides reaffirmed their readiness to collaborate in addressing global challenges, including food security, energy, and cybersecurity.
